I always encourage clients to take on one step organizing tasks to get them accomplished before they stack up. A one step task could be:

  1. Loading a few dishes in the dishwasher
  2. Refilling the almost empty soap container
  3. Returning books to the library
  4. Placing dirty clothes in the hamper

Each of these tasks become more than one step if left undone – the dirty dishes will pile up; the soap may run out and need to be added to the shopping list; the books could become overdue and accrue late fees that then have to be paid; the dirty clothes pile up and then become a larger undertaking.

One step (sometimes 1 or 2 minute tasks) will leave you with a more organized space and a shorter to do list. The alternative is that the tasks and to do’s accumulate and take more time.  Save yourself some time and finish those one step tasks.
