Organizing for Tomorrow

Mar 5, 2018 | Behavior, General Organizing, Habits/Routines

I am always telling clients that organizing is a process and doing a little bit every day helps us to stay on top of it. Another strategy that often helps us feel more in control of our time and possessions is what I like to call ‘organizing for tomorrow.’

Here’s how it works: When you find yourself with a little spare time, take a peek at your calendar and check what is upcoming in your life…Are you traveling? Do you have special occasions to plan for? Are you choosing the next book club selection? Are you hosting guests? Do you need to purchase gifts? Are you preparing for work on your home or car repairs? Are you or a loved one having surgery? Do you have a child going to overnight camp or college? No matter what is coming up in your life and on your calendar, being organized and planning ahead helps you to better anticipate the volume of tasks associated with your commitments. For some, anticipating also means making lists and executing tasks ahead of time to make life easier and less hectic and harried. Give it a try and hopefully those upcoming responsibilities will seem less overwhelming as they get closer!
