We are a consumer society.   We like to buy things. But how many of us return items that don’t fit, don’t work, or just weren’t what we expected? Not many of us. The average U.S. household has over 50 unused items worth over $3,000.   These unused items include electronics, clothing, toys, sporting goods…you name it.   These items are the clutter on the bottom of your closet or the piles in the corner of your entryway.

We are often so busy we just don’t get around to making the returns, though by doing this we are letting money slip through our fingertips.   The time it takes to drive to the retail stores or to re-pack a box for shipping and get it to the post office, UPS, or Fed Ex, is often time we avoid spending.

Why not give it a shot, since we could all put that $3,000 to use.   So, do a sweep of your home and see if there are items in it that still have their price tags on them. Gather the items together, find the receipts (if you can) and figure out a plan for return.     Enter ‘returns time’ in your calendar to commit to getting it done.   I promise it will not only feel good, but your wallet will be a bit more full.
