To all those out there that are looking forward to the end of the school year, it’s time to think about getting organized!  As routines shift and  the pace changes a bit, there are certain areas of your home/life you will want to focus on keeping organized throughout the summer season.  In no specific order:

  1. Your car – as you drive children, teens and their friends to all sorts of destinations this summer, your car should be one place that is organized – and gets attention after each use.
  2. Your pantry & refrigerator – meals and snacks take on a whole new definition in the summer. Maybe you are packing lunches for camp, snacks for the beach or planning a picnic. No matter what the plan is, keep your pantry stocked and organized so you can see what you have on hand and add missing items to your grocery list when needed.
  3. Your Mudroom – If you are lucky enough to have an entry/exit space in your home that serves as. a mudroom, this space should reflect the current season and all its needs.  Out with the winter coats, boots, gloves, mittens, hats and scarves – in with the towels, sunscreen, bug spray, outdoor activity equipment, camp backpacks, etc.
  4. Your handbag – summer may call for a switch to a larger tote to be sure extras are within easy reach, no matter where you are.
  5. Your luggage – whether you travel for a weekend away or a journey of several weeks, your suitcases, packing cubes, backpacks, travel cosmetics and extra prescriptions should all be organized and ready to use.
  6. Your laundry space – This space gets a lot of use year round, but summer means even more loads with beach towels, multiple changes of clothing, & house guest preparation.

Finally, remember to use some rainy days to focus on cleaning out school backpacks and going thru artwork and schoolwork from the previous year. Have your kids help you go through and only save the best of their work.
