Recently I visited the Boston Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) and viewed the exhibit “Visiting Masterpieces: Pairing Picasso,” an exhibition that looks at works from different stages of Picasso’s career and his exploration of form. It is a unique opportunity to study the artist’s range of techniques and styles through just a few works of art.
A few works of art in this case is 11. The 11 works are able to tell a story and reflect various themes without overwhelming the visitor. I am sure it was a challenge for the curators to pare down their choices and they did their jobs well.
Similarly, we need to spend time thinking about what possessions we want to keep in our lives. How do we define quality over quantity in the possessions we keep? What can we live without? What is useful and what is clutter?
Picasso was one of the world’s most famous artists of the 20th century with an incredible body of work in museums across the world. If the MFA’s curators can choose just 11 pieces to tell a strong story of his life’s work, you can too. What items reflect your story?
