Too Much Stuff

Mar 29, 2018 | Clutter/DeClutter, Downsizing

In a 2016 survey by OfferUp entitled “Buried: The State of Stress & Stuff,” Americans across the country, as well as residents of ten major cities, admit they have more than 50 items in their homes they don’t use. The top un-used items:

1. Clothes & Shoes – 67%
2. Games & Toys – 34%
3. Electronics – 33%
4. Jewelry & Accessories – 22%
5. Kitchen Utensils – 18%

We are drowning in things we don’t use, we don’t want, and no longer need. Nearly half (48%) of those surveyed considered their homes to be at least ‘somewhat’ cluttered. Other key findings:

-1 in 7 have a room in their home they cannot use because it is filled with rarely used items
-41% haven’t decluttered for over a year
-72% believe they would gain more space in their homes if they purged unused items
